Operation Wean Melina: Day 3

Weaning sucks!

Last night was nightmare for me. Since I started weaning my little girl, each day is worse than the last. My boobs were so tender and full I had to sleep on my back the entire night. Morning could not come any sooner.

What I do not understand is why the situation got worse even though I finally did get milk suppressing pills and some painkillers. I guess it could be because I got them a little too late. Maybe.

Though I initially thought that I could avoid it, I finally had to express a little milk to avoid blocked duct or even mastitis. The key, I read, was to express just enough milk to relieve the discomfort, being very careful not to empty them completely as this would trigger the production of more milk. I am a little better now.

One side effect to weaning breastfeeding that I had not expected was nausea. I have no idea how I missed it. A little research has revealed that the hormone fluctuation may be the cause. I feel like I am pregnant.

I finally got to talk to my daughter. She is at my sister-in-law’s. She sounded great. 2 more days and I’ll go get her. I simply can’t wait.
