Defying The Gods By Morris Mchawia Mwavizo

I have been postponing reading this book ever since I received a soft copy from Morris Mchawia because I thought I could not have enough time to complete it. And then I started reading it and I could not put it down. The story is simple and very short, two qualities that I really appreciated.
Defying The Gods

Set in the pre-colonial era in a village in Africa, Defying the Gods is a book about greed, tradition and love. A beautiful girl, Koko falls for the wrong guy. Amana, the son of a single mother, is so poor that all he can offer her is his devoted love. Unfortunately for the lovebirds, Muntu (the girl’s father) cares little about love. After all, you cannot get drunk on love now, can you?   He is too lazy to work and his greed makes him see his three daughters as assets to be sold off to the highest bidder.

The tale is told with ease and the end is dramatic. It does not hurt that the village seems to cook their food like my people do.  This is definitely an enjoyable read.

Will the two follow their hearts or the traditions? What will be the repercussions of their choices? To find out, you can get a copy at Smashwords
